Ananya’s Reflection

‘Imagine’ reflection towards my classroom.

 My understanding

It is my deep faith that the magical relationship that a teacher builds with each child is the barebones of learning. Teachers are like prisms, waiting to catch the light and make splendid rainbows. Yes, the most important element is catching the light. Every child carries this light but somehow it gets overlooked, pushed aside or dimmed out.

My personal life experience

When I was in senior school, I thought I had a special connection with my school English teacher. She gave me a deep sense of worthiness. Even after leaving school, I carried that feeling with me. Twenty-five years on, we had our batch e-reunion and one question raised was, “Which teacher in school changed your life?” Imagine my astonishment when most people named her! everybody named her. A part of me was irked, but a large part of me was left in wonder at the incredible power of a teacher to touch so many lives.

My classroom reflection as a teacher

From the book ‘imagine,’ written by Shelja Sen,  we learned about the connection between the students and teachers and how to encourage students towards learning. I have a deep connection with my Grade III  and IV students. As per the timetable, I have only 35 min allotted for them but I will be not able to finish the class within that time, they will request me to take special permission from the school to have at least 1-hour class with them which is quite difficult for any teacher, every day they will request me to take at least one special class with them although we are only doing online classes.

One thing that I have learned from the book is to encourage students and to give them unconditional support and acceptance in the teaching-learning process.
